THERAPY DOG OF THE MONTH
Our "Therapy Dog of the Month" for March, 2002 is awarded posthumously. Emmitt, a beautiful brindled whippet with a shy gentle nature and a unique mischievous personality, was owned and skillfully handled by Deb
Rabuck. All who met him liked him. Emmitt was so easy to work with, Deb could take him on visits along with "Mary" and "Frank", her two other therapy dogs, and work with three dogs at the same time. This is not easy to do.
Emmitt was somewhat unusual as he made his visits. He enjoyed working with the other dogs almost as if he was proud to be a part of a winning team. He was very well known at Kids Peace and I remember meeting him at the Association for Retarded Citizens a
month or two ago. I got to give him a treat or two. He was so gentle that I wasn't sure if he got his treat, or if possibly he had dropped it. But then he looked up with his gentle eyes to say thank you, and I felt better right away.
Dogs like Emmitt make a difference for those they meet. They leave a tender warm footprint on your heart. "Mary" and "Frank" will miss him too. GLTD Members and friends contributed to provide a new piece of equipment for the Emmaus Animal Hospital in
his memory. He was an excellent therapy dog.
Greater Lehigh Therapy Dogs was very fortunate to have had Emmitt on our team for the past year and we are sadly diminished at his loss. He will surely be missed.
