The incomprehensible events of September 11, 2001, in New York City, left thousands of families in absolute shock and dismay. The property losses were
huge, but the personal losses were absolutely staggering. People from all over the country have asked "what can we do to help" and many have contributed in whatever way they could. Greater Lehigh Therapy Dogs has been a part of this effort.
The warmth and unconditional love of our Therapy Dogs was there to help soothe and calm the families of the victims of this awesome tradgedy. They were not only there to help the families who were struggling to make it through this most difficult time,
but they were also there to provide a diversion of warmth and comfort for the tireless workers and staff who were doing everything they could do to help the victims.
On March 3, 2002, there was a "Festival of Bands" ceremony in Memorial Hall at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. They wanted to honor those who were able to help out in New York City. Everyone was given a flag as they entered. They invited Policemen,
Firemen, Red Cross Workers, Search and Rescue Dog Teams, The Salvation Army, anyone who had been there. They also invited the Greater Lehigh Therapy Dogs who were able to make the trip to help out at Pier 94. The music was very patriotic and very
moving. As the concert ended, they played "Stars and Stripes Forever" and asked us to walk through the crowd with the dogs while they played. Some people were very emotional as they reached out to touch them. Flags were waving everywhere It really felt
good to be a part of it.
The photographs below show some of the Greater Lehigh Therapy Dogs who were able to take part in this effort. Since cameras were not allowed inside, the pictures were all taken in or near the city on the way to and from Pier 94.
