For a variety of reasons, there are quite a few Tax Honesty Movement advocates currently serving time in prison. In my opinion, some are there because they elected to either go with ineffective legal counsel, or no counsel at all. Regardless of the reason, though, not one of them deserves to be where he or she is, because there are no tax evasion or willful failure to file crimes that legally pertain to the federal income tax. This page contains contact information for these people, as well as feedback from them that I have received via reply correspondence.
I am including below the contact information for some of these people, and I encourage you to write to them. They deserve thanks for doing more than the overwhelming majority of Americans - taking the fight to the courts. They deserve remembrance, and correspondence is a great way to show that. They deserve assistance, and a donation to a legal defense fund or even a while-in-jail spending money account is a way to easily provide it. I learned from my weekend in the federal detention center in November 2004 that absent funds deposited from outside into a prisoner's account, he is unable to buy many things considered staple items (toiletries, for example), let alone luxuries such as books.

05 September 2006 - Richard Simkanin wrote back with some information about his case, and good wishes about the reception by folks of my Income brochure. He says he is "just a little over half way done with the sentence the district court stuck [him] with." He passes along to all of us his greetings, and says that he remains in good spirits.
