Cool Sites

Check out some of the sites below. Since you probably already know how to get to ESPN or CNN or your favorite company, I'll try to provide you with some not-so-obvious links:

Sports

ESPN.com's Page 2: Entertaining sportswriting that blurs the line between sports and society. My recommendations: anything by Bill "The Sports Guy" Simmons or Ralph Wiley, Brian Murphy's Monday Water Cooler, and Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback (during football season).
Sports Pages.com: Links to online sports sections and prominent columnists in just about every major city.
Penn State Athletics: Home for all PSU Sports, from Football to Fencing.
Philadelphia Sport And Social Club: Adult sports leagues in and around Philly.

Entertainment

RajahWWF.com: A very comprehensive fan site featuring Columns, News and Rumors, and just about anything you'd want to know about the history of the WWF.
The Official John Valby Website: Official site of John "Dr. Dirty" Valby. Tour dates, CDs and tapes, etc.
FNX Radio Network: Listen online to the FNX Radio Network, home of modern rock station 101.7 FM from Boston and its two sister stations.
Y-100 Radio Philadelphia: Philadelphia's modern rock 100.3 FM. Concert and Sonic Session announcements (you cannot currently listen online).
WJSE Digital 102.7 Radio: Digital Modern-Rock station from the South Jersey shore. Listen online to the best modern-rock station I've heard.

News And Info

WorldNet Daily: Your daily news, with a slightly right-of-Fox-News slant (OK, maybe more than slight). At any rate, if you like your irreverant liberal-bashing with a dose of humor, I recommend the columns by Ann Coulter.
The Smoking Gun: Get the latest dirt on celebs, athletes, politicians, and other public figures -- straight from the official paperwork.
FOX Philadelphia Weather: If you live in the Philly area, this is the most accurate forecast I've found.
Kegworks.com Troubleshooting Guide: If you have a keg problem of any kind (other than not having one), they'll be able to help.

Web and Techie Stuff

Textpad v4: Gotta give some props to the Textpad text editor, which I used to create most of this site. Download a free evaluation copy of Textpad here, and if you like it and choose to keep it for the long term it only costs about $30.
The HTML Writer's Guild: Everything you wanted to know about HTML authoring and more. A yearly membership to the Guild is $40, but there's plenty of free areas on the site as well. Before you even think about writing your own web page, start here.
Index Dot HTML: Online guide to the HTML language and Cascading Style Sheets. Well organized reference by HTML tag with loads of information on uses, limitations, and syntax. If you're stuck, check this site out before you drop $60 on a book.
The Java Boutique: Features Java Applets that you can download and use on your own site, Java games, tutorials, news, etc.
The Cool Archive: Free clip art, fonts, banners, buttons, and other graphics that you can download for use on your own site.
Cool Text Online Graphics Generator: Choose one of Cool Text's image types and follow their steps to create your own logo, which you can then download for free.
Real Networks: If you don't already have it, download Real Player to get streaming audio and video (Look for "Top Free Downloads" on the page).
Winamp: Download the free Winamp MP3 player.
AOL Instant Messenger: If you are usually dialed into the web for a length of time or if you have a network connection at work (and your workplace allows it), download AOL Instant Messenger to keep in contact with your friends and co-workers. While it is mainly for social use, we have used it at work on several projects to communicate with team members, so it does have some corporate value too. If you get AIM or already have it, you can contact Dan as "DanPSU4evr".

People and Organizations

Penn State University: Lots of useful stuff even for non-students or alumni.
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity: International HQ site for Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Philadelphia Bicycle Club: For Philly cycling enthusiasts -- with a group for mountain bikers as well.
Konya Online: Home site of Steve Konya, who is also from the Easton/Nazareth/Pen Argyl megalopolis. His site is neat, professional-looking, has a lot of cool graphics and features: basically everything you won't find on our site.

The Bizarro Pages

Stick Figure Death Theatre: Short animated clips of stick figure people meeting their demise in various ways. No word on whether or not Stick Figure Porn Theatre exists yet, but it's inevitable. (Update: someone sent me a link -- it does!)
The Onion: Check out the web's original satirical news magazine. New issues weekly and an archive of the past six month's articles.
