- Whitehall's Sean Carr was selected yesterday as East
Stroudsburg University's
Male Scholar athlete for 2007-2008. He was also one of seven nominees for
Athlete of the Year and received the Coach's award for wrestling.
- Jordan Oliver, the three-time PIAA wrestling champion
from Easton High School,
has been named the 2008 National Wrestling Coaches Association High School
Wrestler of the Year. An official announcement from the NWCA is scheduled for
later today. Oliver, who earned a full scholarship to Oklahoma State University,
is one of the best high school wrestlers ever to come out of Easton and was considered
one of the top prospects in the country among all weight classes. He completed his
high school career with a District 11 record 175 wins and went undefeated in his
junior and senior seasons en route to a career mark of 175-5.
- The District XI Coaches Association awarded 2 Scholarships
at their annual
banquest last night and also inducted 5 new members to the Hall of Fame.
The 2 winners were AAA - Tevin Gibson of Easton who will be attending
NC State, and AA - Casey Hedash of Northern Lehigh who will be attending
West Point. The 5 inductees include Joey Killar, Gary "Gimp" Brownell,
Malcolm Purdy, Chris Gerhard, and Duane Maurer. Click on the webpage

- Jordan Oliver named Regional Finalist for the Dave
Schultz Award presented
by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. From the News Release:
East Region – Jordan Oliver is from Easton Area High School in Easton,
Penn. has a career record of 175-5. He was a three-time state champion
and a four–time state finalist. In 2006 he was a cadet national
freestyle champion and followed that up the next year winning a junior
national championship. As both a sophomore and a junior, he won the
National High School Coaches Association National Championship. He has
served numerous youth groups at St. Anthony and Forks Community Youth
Center as a volunteer and speaker in Easton. Oliver received the 2006
NAACP Academic-Athlete award. He helps train kids at the Hunterdon
Developmental Center in New Jersey for Special Olympics and
participated in Red Cross America in 2008. He carries a 3.0 G.P.A. and
will be attending Oklahoma State University next fall as a
student-wrestler. His projected weight in college is 133 pounds.
