COMPUTER GENERATED HOLOGRAMS
Create holographic "2D-3D" graphics by first designing them on your computer (or using customer-supplied graphics), and then transferring from your computer to a professional, white-light, reflection display hologram. These holographic images float out in free space in front of the viewer . . . you can pass your hand right through them! I've been working with this technique via "traditional" film methods since the mid-1980's, and now it is easier than ever using a standard desktop Mac or PC, and a one-step hologram recording process. This is the perfect marriage of both computerized and traditional holography. I'll teach it all to you -- and show you how you can get started on your own: easily and inexpensively! In this workshop, you can bring a graphic file with you, or use one of my "ready to go" files that I have here in the studio. In this workshop we'll work together from start to finish, leaving no stone unturned, to create your own high quality glass plate 4 x 5-inch hologram to take home with you. For those who prefer to learn via hands-on, individually personalized instruction, I've dug very deeply into my 25 years experience teaching holography workshops to develop this comprehensive program. Once again I am offering a hands-on, laser transmission holography workshop for spring and summer 2008. Laser transmission holograms are the ultimate in 3D holography. You need a laser to view these holograms, but don't dispair, I'll include a safe, low-power laser pointer to illuminate the hologram that you create in this workshop. If and when holography ever becomes a wide-spread 3-dimensional medium for movies, television, and so forth, it will be from a variation of laser transmission holography. The depth and realism of these holograms is absolutely breathtaking.

If your child has chosen, or has been assigned, a science fair project to make a hologram, this workshop is for them (and, indirectly, you too!). Rather than obtaining and assembling all the materials needed to make a hologram, I will have everything you need in the laser lab ready and waiting for your student. Working together, we will go through the process from start to finish: setting up the holography optical table, making the exposure, and hand-processing the hologram. A high-quality, 4 x 5-inch hologram is included (compared to most "kits" that make only small single-beam, 2-inch holograms). This has been my most popular class for students for 25 years -- and it is truly, to this day (and especially today), a most incredible bargain! Just $99 and the standard $20 materials fee.
