As it is almost impossible to track the pre1900 locomotives with each division getting locomotives to meet their needs from 6 company shops a number of builders. Then the rebuild programs at each shop added a complex mix. In 1905 with the setting up of the new classification system the Lehigh Valley had 51 classes of 4-4-0 in the E class with a good number of the smaller older 4-4-0 gone.
