Note: It's merely a coincidence that I'm doing this just as our friend Bill is in the news (again). In a computer mag, I read of a certain web site about Microsoft's business practices. Being somewhat interested, I checked it out, and found a slew of related sites. So I decided to do this page. Just a coincidence - really!

This is NOT another 'I hate Microsoft' page

I wouldn't say that I hate MS or Mr. Gates - more like I detest monopolies. I say that it's wrong for a company to gorge itself on smaller companies just to increase its own financial position. (Even though I don't keep up with Wintel news, I've heard several times about MS buying yet another computer company.) I also say that there is a major problem when a computer company writes not only the dominant OS for a certain computer, but also many of the programs. I know that other operating systems had existed (and still do) before Bill's assault (and heard that at least one was better). MS had some anti-trust suit on them several years ago - didn't they realize then that they're handicapping the computer industry?

I'm aware of the notion that the DOJ has waged war on MS - what an interesting twist on reality. Apparently, some people don't consider that MS has waged war on the computer industry, and they don't see the 'one company fits all' policy as bad. Furthermore, what's up with WindowsCE? As if it isn't bad enough that MS dominates the desktop, now they're after palmtops, PDAs, etc. Also, whose idea was it for retailers to bundle the OS (and even programs) with a new computer?

You probably know that I favor the Amiga over the IBM/clone or Macintosh platforms. And you might think that this is because of Bill - wrong. If Amiga (or anything close) didn't exist, I might be a Mac nut, or perhaps have an Intel platform with OS/2 or some Unix derivative. This is because I don't like Windows due to its kludginess and methods. The Amiga marries a kick-butt OS (ie - Unix) and a personal-computer-style GUI to create a wonderful platform; read my Amiga page.

Here is a compilation of sites about Microsoft's doings and current situation. There might be some content that I consider ranting - but my intention is to inform.

Of course the web search engines have their lists. Check Yahoo's MS - consumer opinion.
