Requirements for the Disease Research Paper/Project...................Human Anat & Phys Mr. Shevalier

The paper will be due sometime in the fourth marking period. The Power Point presentation to the class based on the paper will also be due in the fourth marking period. The paper must have the following elements:

1. Introduction - why you chose to research this particular disease - a general description of the disease

2. Life Cycle/Pathology (a VERY DETAILED discussion of the disease)

- what the disease is (in microscopic or chemical detail) - how it enters the body -what parts of the body are affected - how it affects the body parts - should include pictures or video clips of the affected individuals or body parts in this section

*note, these items do not have to occur in the order presented

3. Preventative Therapies/Treatments/Cures

- list the actions to take that will prevent or reduce the risk of contracting this disease - a therapy history (what therapies have been used to treat this disease in the past) - discuss modern treatment therapies/cures in terms of the types/quantities of medicines prescribed (or other treatments) and how these interact with the disease itself.

4. Demographics

- what percentage of the population (in NJ, US, World) has this disease - how does the disease alter the lives of those affected with it, and the lives of their families - is there a socio-economic aspect to this disease

5. MANDATORY Interview

- you must show an interaction between you and someone else associated with the disease - the entire interview must accompany the paper when it is handed in - An excerpt from the interview will be included in your paper. The excerpt will cover the parts of the interview in which you feel you gained a new insight into the disease. - feel free to explore any avenue of the disease in your interview, but make sure you try to get a feel for how the disease affects the lives of the patients and their families.
