I've known Charlie for over 25 years, since our college years. I've known Jolene since high school. Charlie and I work in the same building. Frequently we have lunch together. When you've been friends as long as we have, sometimes only a word, via E-mail, is needed: Chinese? Other times, we just barely get caught up after six hours of talking.
Besides Jolene and their two kids, Charlie's pride and joy is his home. Built in 1746 as the original home of Paulius Balliett, it was hidden for years under old siding. Charlie researched this home after he bought it. He's reversed much of the effects of re-muddling, which had taken place over many years.
Another structure on the property is the springhouse. When I first saw this, the roof was leaking thru large holes, the floor wasn't safe, and it was a mess. Charlie rescued this building and now it is his library. Not just a place for reading, Charlie also uses it as a place to write. His first major work is nearing completion.
