Notes and Links

Hosea Ballou, founder of the Universalist Church in America, was Stephen Ballou's brother.  President James Garfield was a descendent of Maturin Ballou and Hannah Pike, through his mother, Eliza Ballou.  Ballou information can be found at Bruce Trousdale's Ballou Genealogy.

Richard Tew and Thomas Harris are amng the leading citizens whose names appear on the Royal Charter granted to Rhode Island by King Charles II in 1663.  The notorious Thomas Tew, the pirate of Rhode Island, was probably a member of Richard Tew's family.  An examination of this relationship can be found at  Paul Orton's website.
