Notes and Links

This line includes a number of prominent New England families, and there is more information available on their ancestry than on many others -- but also more disputes as to the details.

A good deal of information on the Starr, Baldwin, and Weld families is available from John Marshall who is descended from Abigail Baldwin's brother.  There is also a Complete Starr Database that, although not quite absolutely complete, is amazingly extensive.

Phineas T. Barnum's grandmother, Rachel Starr, was the great-great-granddaughter of Thomas and Rachel Starr.

There is a lot of interest in Baldwin family genealogy, including a Baldwin one-name study, a page on the Descendents of William Baldwin, and a study of the Descendents of John Baldwin of Milford, CT.   I have followed the research of Robert K. Lewis concerning the medieval connections of both Baldwin lines on this page.

The Bruen family line goes much further back than I have traced it here, including a lot of complicated intermarriage with the Holford, Bulkley, and Venables families, and reaching back into medieval rovalty.  Several of the descendents of Mary Bruen's brother, Obadiah Bruen (an ancestor of Humphrey Bogart and Barbara Bush), have worked on this line.  Their research can be found at The Gene Pool and at the website of GeeGee Hughes.

The Duttons appear to have been the leading aristocratic family in the area where the Bruens were local gentry.  There is a page of Early Dutton History that mentions John Bruen.
