My "New" Tractor
We are in the process of buying the barn across the road from us, along with several other outbuildings, and two more acres of land, bringing our little empire up to 5 1/2 acres. There is a lot to mow, at least into the forseeable future. Along with the extra mowing, I now have plenty of storage space, so a larger "lawn mower" was in order. Here are a few pictures of my new machine.
This baby is a Ford, or more accurately a Fordson, built in England in 1963 for export to the US. Who'da thunk it? Here I am buying another big blue machine with tremendous torque built in the UK. This is a Super Dexta, with a 3 cylinder diesel engine made by Perkins. According to those who know such things, it has between 35 and 40 HP.
As you can see, it ain't pretty, and knowing me, it probably won't get pretty either. Mechanically sound is one thing, but pretty is something I usually don't have time to do unless it is made out of wood.
Along with the diesel engine, it sports a two speed transmission, giving it six speeds forward and two in reverse. The clutch is a two position affair, disconnecting the drive, the PTO, or both.
The 3 point hitch is a Category 1. I don't have any attachments yet, although a sickle bar mower is on the way. Soon to be added (I hope) are an auger and a finish mower. Additionally, I am looking for a front end loader.
Like I said, it ain't pretty, but everything works. It doesn't leak any fluids (badly, anyway), it doesn't seem to burn any oil other than what it is supposed to burn and the gears and PTO all work as advertised. As I acquire attachements and experience, I'll add to this page for all of you who have an interest in things like this. Thanks for taking a look.
