  • Exploring personal choices
  • Building self-esteem

How does it work?

Call Women's Resources at (570) 421 -4200, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm to schedule an appointment.

For Children Under the Age of 14

The Children's Advocate will first meet privately with the parent or guardian. The second appointment will be with the parent, child and Children's Advocate. All further appointments will be private appointments between the Children's Advocate and child. Parents are encouraged to discuss specific concerns with their child and/or the Children's Advocate.

For Children Aaged 14-18

The Children's Advocate will first meet with the parent or guardian and teen. The teen will schedule all further appointments to meet privately with the Children's Advocate. Parents are encouraged to discuss specific concerns with their teen and/or the Children's Advocate.

When your child is hurt, it hurts you too, but your response can make all the difference.

We offer parents and significant others support through counseling, support groups and our 24 hour crisis hotline. If at any time you come upon a new problem or concern regarding your child, please feel free to discuss it with the Children's Advocate. Your input is important.

NOTE:

Women's Resources provides counseling and crisis services. We are unable to write reports or provide custody recommendations to the court. Our primary concern is the safety and care of your child/teen. We will provide a safe, confidential environment for you and your children to explore concerns and behaviors related to witnessing or experiencing violence or sexual abuse. Younger children may not be as talkative, so the counseling will include play and art as a way to reach your child.

An important goal in children's counseling is to help you learn to assist your child in understanding what he or she is experiencing, by providing age-appropriate information and support strategies.

Confidentiality is very important in the work that we do. Every appointment that the advocate has with a child is private. We support the child's choice about what information they want to share with their parent. If there is a concern or reportable incident that has occurred (child abuse, sexual abuse, homicide or suicide) the advocate will notify you immediately. Otherwise, it is up to the child/teen to discuss her or his appointments with you. The advocate may meet with you and the child briefly after appointments to share any specific strategies the child/teen may use at home to help him or her cope.
