Kinetic Energy: Any object in motion produces "Kinetic Energy" which produces heat.
K-Index: Is a measure of potential thunderstorms.
K-Index Formula:
(500 mb temp. -850 mb temp) + 850 mb Dew Point - 700 mb Temp/Dewpoint Depression.
Example:
500 mb Temp. -23 850 mb Dew Point = 7
850 mb Temp. -10 700 mb Temp. = 20, Dew Point = 10 Depression = 10
-----
-13
K-Index = -13 + 7 = -6 +10 = +4 = K-Index
A K-Index 15 or less, no thunderstorms. 26 indicates a chance of thunderstorms.
32 is a good chance. 36 is likely. 40 Thunderstorms a 100 %.
