The Amateur Weather Station |
Becoming A Amateur Weather Forecaster |
Your daily newspaper along with the Weather Channel and the Internet
includes a weather map which depicts the location of the highs and lows,
weather fronts and areas of precipitation. Combining your weather
observation, along with the daily weather map, you can make some fairly
accurate forecasts for your general area.
There are some really great weather instruments and programs which you
can purchase to work along with you computers, if you so wish. You can
also write a program to log all your weather observations and have the
computer do all you calculations.
Since I was about 10 years old, I've been making various weather
instruments. One that I am very proud of is a Mercurial Barometer.
My wife Virginia, (Gini) is a Certified Co-Operative Weather Observer.
She has a certified weather station here in our back yard which I installed
and maintain. Gini has been observing the weather since 1986. All this
weather data is stored in our computers. Our programs have become quite
elaborate, with publishing a 6-8 page monthly weather newsletter, along
with a weekly and annual summation, and this web site.
Weather is a fascinating hobby, and in some cases like mine, a stronger
drive than computers, photography, or golf. Fishing and Hunting are
my close second, however.
Above all. Family Comes First |
If you decide to construct an amateur weather station, or maybe you
already have, good luck, and have fun.
