"Chapter III"
"My Hike To Twin Lakes East Of Dunmore, Pa. USA."

The summer when I was 15 years old, myself, and my two friends which I will name Joe and John would go for long walks in the woods. One Sunday we went for a walk down to No. 1. which was not far from our homes north of Dunmore, Pa. USA.
We would hike around in the woods, walk along the railroad tracks from No. 1 east to where we would leave the tracks and start walking through the woods. We walked until we came to the Old Gravity Railroad Bed. At one time there was the Gravity Railroad Train which operated on the road. The tracks where taken out a long time ago and all that was left was the black dirt roadway.
We would walk along the roadway for a few miles which is east of Dunmore, Pa. and runs along route 611. The road leads up the mountain east of Dunmore. As you go up the road you would be able to see back to Dunmore. You also could see well to the northwest towards Carbondale and southwest to Wilkes Berra and further south. It was a fantastic view. Too bad we did not take some pictures back then.
We would continue to walk up the Old Gravity Road. For being quite old the Old Gravity Roadway was still in good condition. There were areas where the vegetation had grown in and covered the road and we would have to walk through the woods but for the most part we could walk along the roadbed. We walked past and area called, No. 9. When I was younger I would come up this way with a group and pick berries.

"Chapter III"

We hiked past No. 9, past No. 10. and 11 and continue to No. 12. This was about 5 or 6 miles from our homes. Above No. 12 was an area called "Twin Lakes". In this area were two beautiful lakes I believe built by the gas and water company. The lakes are about the same size and look similar so called "Twin Lakes".
The lakes are private. No fishing or swimming allowed. It was a hot Sunday afternoon and we had hiked along ways, so we decided to go in for a swim. We took our clothes off and went into the water. The water in the lakes look very deep. The water was very clear but being it was so deep it looked dark. It was an enjoyable swim.
The lakes were patrolled by a security guard. We were afraid of possibly being caught by the guard, however, I believe we more afraid of the deep water in the lake and what might come out of the water. We didn't stay long in the water. We got out of the water, dried off and got dressed. We felt quite satisfied to have hiked that far and go in for a swim. The area where the lakes are at that time was beautiful.
After sitting around for awhile, we started our trip back home. Now that I am older, I am sure glad to have hiked up to the "Twin Lakes" area. Enjoyed the area and glad to have gone in for a swim. It has always been my thought of mine to hike up to that area once again. I may still do it one of these days. This time I will bring my digital and VHS cameras.
Thinking about it now, I don't know how many people have been up to that area to see the "Twin Lakes". I'm sure there are probably hiking trails in that area now that people may hike up that way. It is nice to know. that the three of us belong to a very unique group of people to have seen that area and gone in for a swim.
If you look on a topography map of that area of Pennsylvania you will see the lakes marked on the map.
