" Chapter 2"
"Tabacco Chewing""
Sometime between 11 and 12, myself, and my two
friends would go hiking over to the area
called No. 1. This was about 1 to 2 miles
from our home. We would play and run around in the
woods. Look for animals and just spend the day hiking.
When we were that young we were impressed
by guys that chewed tabacco. One day when we were
out running around the woods down at No. 1 we
bought a pack of chewing tobacco. We all decided
it was time we give it a try. We all took a good
size bite out of the pack. We were playing and
running around the woods for about an hour, when
all three of us started to feel woosey. The tabacco
was starting to get to us. Little did we know you
weren't supposed to swallow the syliva from chewing,
well we did. After awhile we all became quite sick.
We were seeing double. Our stomachs hurt. We wanted
to throw up be we couldn't. The sky and everything
around us was spinning very fast. We had to lye down
on the ground because we could not stand without
loosing our ballance.
Years ago down at No. 1, someone taped a spring
with a water pipe. The water would come running out of
the pipe so it was quite easy to fill a bottle or jug,
or bend down and get a drink. We thought about the spring
and we made our way to it. I don't remember getting there,
all I remember is that we did, lucky for us. We all
started to take long drinks of water. We washed and rinsed
out out mouths. We drank a lot of water to try to settle our
stomachs. We than sat on the ground for the longest time.
After drinking quite a lot of water and sitting around
for a long time, we began to feel better and said we would
not try that again. Once we were feeling better we went on
hiking around the woods. We went home that night much wiser
about "Chewing Tabacco".
